Guatemala: Growth in economic activity is unchanged in May

In May, economic activity increased 2.7% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de la Actividad Económica). The result was slightly higher than April’s 2.6%. The reading was positively influenced by industrial manufacturing and commerce.

Annual average growth inched down from 3.7% in April to 3.5% in May, which represented the lowest reading since February 2014.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.6%.
