Guatemala: Growth in economic activity inches up in December

In December, economic activity increased 3.4% from the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de la Actividad Económica). The result marked an over one-year high and followed November’s revised 3.3% increase (previously reported: +3.0% year-on-year).

In December, annual average growth was stable at November’s 2.9%, which was the lowest reading since October 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus panelists forecast that the economy will grow 3.7% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel sees GDP growth at 3.7%.
