Guatemala: Growth in economic activity inches down in May

In May, economic activity increased 3.8% over the same month of last year according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result was a moderation from the 3.9% expansion tallied in April and marked the lowest reading since March of last year.

Annual average growth fell from April’s 4.7% to 4.6% in May, resulting in the lowest reading in four months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.9% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.6%.
