Guatemala: Growth in economic activity decreases in March

May 14, 2015

In March, economic activity increased 3.8% over the same month of last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result was lower than the expansion of 4.6% tallied in February and marked a thirteen-month low.

Despite the monthly decline, annual average growth in March was stable at February’s 4.5%, thereby maintaining the fastest pace of growth in more than six years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.4%.
