Guatemala: Growth in economic activity decelerates to over-two-year low

In March, economic activity increased 3.3% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result marked a moderation compared to February’s 3.5% expansion and the smallest gain in over two years.

Annual average growth inched down from 4.0% in February to 3.9% in March, which represented the lowest reading in 19 months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.6%.
