Guatemala: Growth in economic activity continues to accelerate in January

In January, economic activity in Guatemala increased 3.6% from the same month of last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de la Actividad Económica). The result marked an over one-year high and followed December’s revised 3.5% increase (previously reported: +3.4% year-on-year).

In January, annual average growth was stable at December’s 2.9%, which was the lowest reading since October 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus panelists forecast that the economy will grow 3.7% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel also sees GDP growth at 3.7%.
