Guatemala: Growth in economic activity accelerates in March

In March, economic activity increased 3.5% from the same month of last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Índice Mensual de la Actividad Económica). The result marked an over one-year high and followed February’s revised 3.4% increase (previously reported: +3.6% year-on-year).

In March, annual average growth increased to 2.9%, up from February’s 2.8% and marking the highest reading since October 2016.

FocusEconomics Consensus panelists forecast that the economy will grow 3.5% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel also sees GDP growth at 3.5%.
