Guatemala: Economic activity steady in August

In August, economic activity expanded 3.2% over the same month last year according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The reading matched the print tallied in the previous month.
As a result, the trend improved, with average growth in economic activity inching up from 3.4% in July to 3.5% in August, thus reaching a 14-month high.
The Central Bank expects the economy to grow between 3.2% and 3.6% in 2013. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.3% this year, which is unchanged from last month's forecast. For next year, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.5%, which is down 0.1 percentage points over the previous month's estimate.
