Guatemala: Economic activity stabilizes at the outset of the year

In January, economic activity rose 3.6% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The reading matched the revised result observed in December (previously reported: +3.8% year-on-year).
As a result of the monthly print, the trend stabilized, with annual average growth in economic activity remaining at December's 3.6%.
The Central Bank expects the economy to grow between 3.5% and 3.9% in 2013. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.3% this year, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month's forecast. For next year, panellists expect the economy to expand 3.4%.
