Guatemala: Economic activity grows at fastest pace in nearly three years

In April, economic activity expanded 4.0% over the same month last year according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The expansion was an improvement over the 3.8% rise observed in March and marked the highest increase since September 2011.

Nevertheless, the trend was stable with annual average growth in economic activity remaining at 3.5%, which mirrored March’s figure.

The Central Bank expects the economy to grow between 3.3% and 3.9% in 2014. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.5% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panelists also expect the economy to expand 3.5%.
