Guatemala: Economic activity expands at the fastest pace in nearly three years in June

In June, economic activity increased 4.5% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The expansion was an improvement over the 4.3% rise observed in May and marked the fastest growth rate since August 2011.

Nevertheless, the trend was stable in June, with annual average growth in economic activity remaining at 3.6% for the second consecutive month.

The Central Bank expects the economy to grow between 3.3% and 3.9% in 2014. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.4% in 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panelists also expect the economy to expand 3.5%.
