Guatemala: Economic activity decelerates to two-year low

In February, economic activity increased 3.5% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de la Actividad Economica). The result marked a moderation compared to January’s 3.6% expansion and the smallest gain in two years.

Annual average growth inched down from 4.1% in January to 4.0% in February, which represented the lowest reading in 17 months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see GDP growing 3.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect the economy to expand 3.6%.
