Greece: Unemployment rate steady in May

The number of unemployed fell by 2,555 in May, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result was a smaller drop than the 16,152 decrease observed in April.

The unemployment rate was steady at April’s 23.5% in May. May’s figure was below that of the same month last year (May 2015: 25.0%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 24.4% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.8%.
