Greece: Unemployment rate rises in June

The number of unemployed fell by 2,609 in June, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). June’s fall marked a more modest drop over May’s 10,845 decrease.

The unemployment rate inched up in June, rising from May’s 25.0% to 25.2%. May’s reading had marked the lowest rate since June 2012. June’s figure was below that of the same month last year (June 2014: 26.6%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.3% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
