Greece: Unemployment rate rises in December

The number of unemployed fell by 300 in December, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). December’s fall marked a smaller drop over November’s 11,400 decrease.

The unemployment rate inched up from 25.9% in November to 26.0% in December. The reading was below that of the same month of the previous year (December 2013: 27.3%). Despite the improvements registered in recent months, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.3% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
