Greece: Unemployment rate rests at multi-year low in December

The number of unemployed in Greece decreased by 2,300 in December, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result followed the 800 decrease in unemployed seen in November.

The unemployment rate was stable at 23.1% in December for the third consecutive month. The unemployment rate is at the lowest level since March 2012 (December 2015: 24.1%). Despite the improvements registered over the past years, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 22.5% in 2017. For 2018, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 21.3%.
