Greece: Unemployment rate keeps inching down in October

The number of unemployed fell by 8,288 in October, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The fall was an improvement from September’s smaller 2,553 decrease.

The unemployment rate fell in October, inching down from September’s 24.6% to 24.5%. In addition, October’s figure was below that of the same month of the previous year (October 2014: 26.0%) and marked the lowest unemployment rate since May 2012. Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.1% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 24.5%.
