Greece: Unemployment rate inches down in April

The number of unemployed fell by 11,849 in April, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). April’s fall marked a larger drop over March’s 2,483 decrease.

The unemployment rate inched down slightly in April, falling from March’s 25.8% to 25.6%. The reading was below that of the same month last year (April 2014: 27.1%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.3% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
