Greece: Unemployment rate falls to record low in July

The number of unemployed slightly reduced from 1,294 thousands in June to 1,282 thousands in July, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.).

Following the decline in the number of unemployed, the unemployment rate fell from 26.7% in June to 26.3% in July. July’s reading came in below the rate recorded in same month last year (July 2013: 27.80%) and marked the lowest unemployment rate since October 2012. However, the current rate continues to be far above the Eurozone’s average unemployment rate (July 2014: 11.50%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 26.7% in 2014. For 2015, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 25.2%.
