Greece: Unemployment rate falls to over three-year low in September

The number of unemployed fell by 2,428 in September, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). September’s fall was a deteriorization from August’s larger 11,462 decrease.

The unemployment rate fell in September, decreasing from 24.7% in August to 24.6%. In addition, September’s figure was above that of the same month last year (September 2014: 26.1%) and marked the lowest unemployment rate since May 2012. Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.6% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 25.1%.
