Greece: Unemployment rate falls slightly in September

The number of unemployed decreased by 9,900 in September, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result followed the 1,800 decrease in unemployed seen in August.

The unemployment rate fell slightly from August’s 23.3% to 23.1% in September. September’s figure was below that of the same month last year (September 2015: 24.7%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 22.5% in 2017. For 2018, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 21.0%.
