Greece: Unemployment rate falls slightly in June

The number of unemployed fell by 6,800 in June, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result contrasted the 3,200 rise in unemployed seen in May.

The unemployment rate decreased slightly from May’s 23.6% to 23.4% in June. June’s figure was below that of the same month last year (June 2015: 24.9%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 24.3% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.8%.
