Greece: Unemployment rate falls slightly in July

The number of unemployed fell by 5,357 in July, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result followed the 6,900 decrease in unemployed seen in June.

The unemployment rate decreased slightly from June’s 23.4% to 23.2% in July. July’s figure was below that of the same month last year (July 2015: 24.8%) and marked the lowest rate since March 2012. Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 24.1% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
