Greece: Unemployment rate edges down in February

The number of unemployed fell by 7,523 in February, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The decrease contrasted the 2,713 increase tallied in January.

The unemployment rate fell in February, edging down from January’s 24.4% to 24.2%. February’s figure was below that of the same month last year (February 2015: 25.8%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 24.6% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 24.1%.
