Greece: Unemployment rate edges down in February

The number of unemployed fell by 15,097 in February, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). February’s fall marked a large drop over January’s 14,487 decrease.

The unemployment rate inched down from 25.6% in January to 25.4% in February. The reading was below that of the same month last year (February 2014: 27.2%). Despite the improvements registered in recent months, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.3% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
