Greece: Unemployment rate edges down in April

The number of unemployed fell by 20,951 in April, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). The result was a larger drop than the 14,207 decrease observed in March.

The unemployment rate edged down from March’s 23.7% to 23.3% in April, which marked the lowest rate since March 2012. April’s figure was below that of the same month last year (April 2015: 25.3%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 24.4% in 2016. For 2017, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 24.0%.
