Greece: Unemployment rate continues to fall in September

December 12, 2014

The number of unemployed fell by 900 in September, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). September’s reading was only a small fraction of August’s drop of 20,300 in the number of unemployed.

Following the decline in the number of unemployed, the unemployment rate inched down from 26.0% in August to 25.7% in September. September’s reading came in below the rate recorded in the same month last year (August 2013: 28.0%) and marked the lowest print in over two years. However, the current rate is still well above the Eurozone average, which has been stable at 11.5% since August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 26.7% in 2014. For 2015, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 25.3%.
