Greece: Unemployment rate broadly stable in July

The number of unemployed fell by 1,863 in July, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). July’s fall contrasted June’s modest 139 increase in persons unemployed.

The unemployment rate remained broadly unchanged, resting in July at June’s 25.0%. July’s figure was below that of the same month last year (July 2014: 26.3%). Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 26.1% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 26.0%.
