Greece: Industrial production improves in January

In January, industrial production rose a working-day adjusted 5.5% compared to the same month last year, which was above the 5.2% expansion tallied in December and marked the fastest pace of growth since January 2007. January’s pick-up reflected an acceleration in manufacturing while the other components of the index deteriorated from the previous month.

Industrial output in December fell a notable 5.2% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted December’s 0.8% increase. The trend pointed up in January as annual average growth in industrial production rose from 0.7% to 1.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production contracting 1.0% in 2016, which is down 0.8 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2017, the panel sees industrial production growing 0.9%.
