Ghana: Inflation drops in January but remains elevated

Consumer prices in Ghana increased 2.8% in January compared to the previous month, up significantly from December’s 0.9%. This month’s increase was driven by price increases across the board, with the largest increases recorded in the recreation and culture, furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance, and education sub-categories.

Inflation dipped from 15.4% in December to 13.3% in January, the lowest rate since December 2013, while annual average inflation rose from 17.5% in December to 18.6% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 11.8% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. The panel sees inflation at 9.6% in 2018.
