Germany: Inflation falls to 15-month low

April 26, 2012

In April, consumer prices added 0.1% over the previous month, according to a preliminary flash estimate released by the Federal Statistics Institute (Destatis) on 26 April. The subdued reading came in below the 0.3% increase observed in March. Annual headline inflation moderated from 2.1% in March to 2.0% in April, which represents the lowest level in 15 months and was in line with market expectations.. According to the Institute, annual inflation slowed in April, as prices for energy, especially for heating oil, increased at a softer pace compared to the same month last year. Annual HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) followed suit and moderated from 2.3% in March to 2.2% in April.
