Germany: Industrial production deteriorates in November

January 9, 2015

In November, industrial production contracted a seasonally-adjusted 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting October’s 0.6% increase and falling short of market expectations. November’s reading mainly reflected that a contraction in electricity and energy supply and a deceleration in manufacturing more than offset a slight acceleration in mining and quarrying.

Compared to the same month last year, industrial production contracted 0.5%, contrasting October’s 1.2% expansion. As a result, the overall trend deteriorated as annual average growth in industrial production decreased from October’s 2.2% to 1.8% in November.

Forecasters polled by FocusEconomics expect that industrial production will expand 1.4% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees industrial production increasing 2.2%.
