Germany Business Confidence March 2017

Germany: Business confidence rises to over five-year high in March

March 27, 2017

German business confidence rose to 112.3 in March (February: 111.1), the indicator’s highest level since July 2011. The result overshot market expectations of a moderation to 111.0.

According to the Institute, the increase mainly reflected that companies became more optimistic about current and future business conditions. The rise in the overall index was fueled by improving business climate in the manufacturing, construction and retailing sectors, which more than compensated for the moderate drop in the wholesaling sector.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect gross fixed investment to expand 1.7% in 2017, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2018, the panel sees investment growth reaching 3.0%.
