France: Inflation remains stable in October

In October, consumer prices added 0.2% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.3% decrease recorded in September. The monthly reading reflected higher prices for food and tobacco. Annual inflation, however, remained unchanged at September's 1.9%, in line with market expectations. The core inflation index, which excludes more volatile categories such as oil, fruit and vegetables, fell 0.1% over the previous month, which followed a similar drop in September. Annual core inflation fell from 1.2% in September to 0.9%, its lowest level since July 2011. Finally, HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) inched down from 2.2% in September to 2.1%. Annual average HICP also moderated falling to 2.4% from 2.5% in September.
