France: Inflation edges up in October

According to revised figures released by the National Statistical Institute (INSEE) on 15 November, consumer prices rose 0.1% from the previous month in October (September: -0.2% month-on-month). The reading reflects higher prices for food and energy products.

Inflation picked up slightly from 1.0% in September to 1.1% in October. Meanwhile, annual average inflation remained at September’s 0.9%.

Harmonized consumer prices rose 0.1% month-on-month in October (September: -0.1% month-on-month), and harmonized inflation came in at 1.2% (September: 1.1%). Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation in October inched up from 1.0% in September to 1.1% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect HICP inflation to average 1.2% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, panelists project that inflation will remain steady at 1.4%.
