France: Harmonized inflation comes in at highest level since our records began

Consumer prices increased 0.64% in May over the previous month, picking up from the 0.43% rise logged in April. Looking at the details of the release, the change in the prices for services grew at a softer raterebounded in May while prices for manufactured products were broadly stable from the previous month's reading.

Harmonized inflation came in at 5.8% in May, up from April’s 5.4%. May's reading represented the highest inflation rate since our current records began. Annual average harmonized inflation rose to 3.5% in May (April: 3.2%). Finally, consumer price inflation rose to 5.2% in May, from April’s 4.8%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project harmonized inflation averaging 4.7% in 2022, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s estimate, and 2.3% in 2023.
