France: Industrial production picks up steam in April

In April, industrial production expanded a healthy 1.2% over the previous month, which contrasted the revised 0.4% contraction tallied in March (preciously reported: -0.3% month-on-month). The result exceeded the milder 0.4% expansion markets had expected and marks the best reading since August 2015. The print reflected a rebound in the manufacturing industry and softer growth in constructison.

In annual terms, industrial output expanded 1.9% in April, which contrasted the 0.8% contraction tallied in March. Meanwhile, the annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 1.6% in March to 1.7% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.3% in 2016, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
