France: Industrial production drops in November

January 8, 2016

In November, industrial production fell 0.9% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.7% growth tallied in October and marked an over-one-year high. The result undershot the softer 0.4% fall that the market had expected. The decrease reflected a fall in mining and quarrying, which more than offset a rebound in manufacturing.

In annual terms, industrial output rose 2.8% in November, which was below October’s 3.7% increase.

Despite the deceleration, annual average variation in industrial production rose from October’s 0.8% increase to 1.3% growth in November, which marked the highest reading in almost four years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
