France: Industrial production drops in December

February 10, 2016

In December, industrial production fell 1.6% over the previous month, which followed the 0.9% decrease tallied in November and marked the sharpest fall since May 2014. The result contrasted the 0.2% rise that the market had expected. The decrease reflected contractions in both construction and manufacturing, with the latter falling at the sharpest rate in five months.

In annual terms, industrial output fell 0.7% in December, which contrasted November’s 3.0% increase.

Meanwhile, annual average variation in industrial production in December remained stable at November’s 1.3% growth.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
