France: Industrial production drops in December

In December, industrial output fell 1.4% in seasonally adjusted terms over the previous month, which contrasted the 1.1% increase tallied in November. The reading exceeded the decline expected by the market, which had industrial output contracting a softer 0.8%. On an annual basis, industrial activity dropped 1.3%, which contrasted the 1.1% increase observed in November, and marked the first year-on-year decline since December 2009. For the full year 2011, industrial production expanded 2.4%, well below the 4.6% increase recorded in 2010.
