France: Industrial production decelerates in September

November 10, 2015

In September, industrial production rose an anemic 0.1% over the previous month, which was below the 1.7% rise tallied in August. However, the result overshot the stagnation that the market had expected. The increase reflected deteriorations in all sectors, with construction swinging to contraction.

In annual terms, industrial output rose 1.8% in September, which was above August’s 1.4% increase and marked a four-month high.

As a result, the annual average variation in industrial production inched up from August’s 0.2% rise to 0.4% growth in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
