France: Industrial production contracts in June

August 7, 2015

In June, industrial production fell 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting the 0.4% increase tallied in May. The result undershot the 0.2% rise that the market had expected. The increase reflected contractions in both manufacturing and construction sectors.

In annual terms, industrial output grew 0.6% in June, which was significantly below the 2.5% increase recorded in May.

Despite the weak result, the annual average variation in industrial production increased from flat growth in May to 0.1% in June, thus hitting its highest value since April 2012.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
