France: Industrial production contracts in July

September 10, 2015

In July, industrial production fell 0.8% over the previous month, contrasting the flat reading tallied in June. The result undershot the 0.2% rise that the market had expected and marked a three-month low. The increase reflected a steeper contraction in manufacturing.

In annual terms, industrial output fell 0.8% in July, which contrasted June’s 0.7% growth and was the lowest reading since November 2014.

As a result, the annual average variation in industrial production inched down from June’s 0.2% to 0.1% in July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
