France Industry February 2016

France: Industrial production contracts in February

April 8, 2016

In February, industrial production dropped 1.0% over the previous month, which contrasted the 1.0% rise tallied in January and marked the lowest reading since July 2015. The result came in below the 0.4% drop that that markets had expected. The decline reflected drops in both manufacturing and construction, with the latter contracting at the fastest rate since January 2013.

In annual terms, industrial output increased 0.6% in February, which came in below January’s revised 1.7% rise (previously reported: +2.0% year-on-year). Meanwhile, the annual average variation in industrial production inched down from 1.8% in January to 1.7% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.7% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.9% expansion.
