France: Industrial production accelerates in October

December 14, 2015

In October, industrial production rose 0.5% over the previous month, which was above the flat growth tallied in September. The result significantly overshot the 0.1% fall that the market had expected. The increase reflected a rebound in construction, which more than offset a deterioration in manufacturing.

In annual terms, industrial output rose 3.6% in October, which was above September’s 1.7% increase and marked the highest reading since May 2011.

As a result, the annual average variation in industrial production inched up from September’s 0.4% rise to 0.8% growth in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
