France: Industrial output tumbles in October

December 12, 2014

In October, industrial production contracted a seasonally adjusted 0.8% over the previous month. The print came in below the flat reading registered in September and contrasted the 0.2% increase the markets had expected. October’s result stemmed from a deterioration in manufacturing output, which could not be offset by an improvement in construction.

Compared to the same month last year, industrial production decreased 1.0% in October. The reading came in below the 0.3% drop tallied in September. Annual average growth in industrial production was unchanged at September’s minus 0.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.1% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
