France: Industrial output drops in June

July 7, 2017

Industrial production swung from the strong 1.9% increase observed in May to a 1.1% decline. The drop in industrial output reflects a broad-based drop in all components of the index with mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management logging the sharpest drop followed by manufacturing and construction.

In annual terms, growth in industrial production moderated from May’s 18-month high of 3.1% to 2.6% in June. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production edged up from May’s 0.3% to 0.6% in June.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.2% in 2017, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, participants expect growth in industrial output to accelerate to a 1.3% expansion.
