France: Growth in industrial output picks up steam in October

December 11, 2017

Industrial production in October jumped from a revised 0.8% month-on-month increase in September (previously reported: +0.6% month-on-month) to 1.9%. The sharp growth in industrial production came on the back of a strong expansion in manufacturing, which more than offset a contraction in the construction and mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management component.

In annual terms, growth in industrial production rose from 3.2% in September to 5.5% in October, the fastest expansion since February 2011. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose from 1.3% in September to 2.0% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.4% in 2018, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2019, participants also expect industrial output to grow 1.4%.
