France: Consumer confidence stable in September

The consumer confidence index was stable at August’s 95 in September, according to the Statistical Institute (INSEE). As such, the index remained below the 100-threshold—its long-term average.

In September, consumers’ assessment of their future personal financial situation, their future intentions of buying large ticket items, as well as their expected standard of living turned less pessimistic. Moreover, their perception of their current and expected savings capacity improved. On the other hand, households’ appraisal of their past financial situation and past standard of living deteriorated compared to the previous month. Furthermore, consumers’ fears about unemployment increased from the month prior.
