France: Confidence among French falls in June

June 23, 2015

The monthly business sentiment index published by the National Statistical Institute (INSEE) inched down from May’s 103 points to 101 points in June. The reading undershot the 103 points the markets had expected. The figure represented the lowest value in three months. The indicator is now closer to the long-term 100-point average, which is the benchmark measure the INSEE uses to distinguish between improving and worsening business expectations.

June’s decrease reflected that businesses were less optimistic regarding past activity, global order books and inventories. While firms’ assessments regarding general production expectations deteriorated over the previous month, businesses’ views regarding their personal production expectations improved.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment contracting 0.4% in 2015, which is unchanged over the previous month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees investment expanding 1.8%.
